Story Sketch Assignment 3

Story Sketch 3
This assignment required the protagonist to be a cube and it had to deal with the theme of perseverance.
This one was particularly hard because a cube is a difficult character to establish with the theme that was given. I heard the phrase "think out of the box" and developed my story from there.

Rigid Cube was walking on his usual endless path when he came across beautiful, sleek Hourglass. In an attempt to win her attention, and perhaps a bit of her time, he handed her a bouquet of flowers. She looked away in discontent. So he tried again, this time it was a box of chocolates. She yawned in boredom. Then, he presented her with lavish jewelry. Despite this, she was not impressed. Cube slowly walked away, feeling defeated. As he peered back, Triangle and Trapezoid began to flex their angles in an attempt to show off. Determined to gain her attention, Cube pulled out a razor and begin to shave off his corners until they were smoothly rounded. He walked back to Hourglass with a strong strut. As he drew closer, Hourglass turned away from the other shapes. Cube placed his hands against his face and began to rotate them in an almost rhythmic pattern. She froze as the sand in her chest practically stopped moving. The other shapes gasped. She left them behind, and joined cube on his endless walk back to pass the time together.

I worked on the theme of perception of time and perception of beauty. But I also included the idea of thinking outside the box. (or cube in this case!)
